The Whimsical Order of the Ailing Wit was begun in An Tir. For some of its history see here (opens new window)

The creation of the Order in the then Principality of An Tir was done by Prince Ulfred in 1980.

The Whimsical Order of the Ailing Wit, An Tir

We Ulfred, Prince of An Tir, do hereby make known our whim to create the Whimsical Order of the Ailing Wit to distinguish those generally annoying people who are prone to extreme punning, heedless of the limits of good taste.

It is also our whim that every member shall be required to bear, somewhere on his or her person at all times ~ IN PLAIN SIGHT ~ the betraying letters "WOAW" as a warning to innocent persons who may approach with the intention of conversing.

Further it is our Whim that Johann Thorsson shall become The Grand Puntiff of An Tir, and that he shall appoint ~ where appropriate ~ Baby Grand Puntiffs.

A separate Order was created when Avacal became a Kingdom, as recommended by the Grand Puntiff of An Tir, Tvorimir Danilov, and in accordance with the whims of the first King and Queen of Avacal, Albrecht and Nasheeta.

The charter for Avacal was signed on June 27, 2015, and publicly proclaimed on July 11, 2015.

The Whimsical Order of the Ailing Wit, Avacal

We, Albrecht von Rugen and Nasheeta Al-Rakkasa Machiavelli, King and Queen of Avacal, do hereby make known our whim to create the Whimsical Order of the Ailing Wit to distinguish those generally annoying people who are prone to extreme punning, or equivalent verbal humour, heedless of the limits of good taste.

It is our whim that every member of the order shall be required to bear, somewhere on his or her person at all times at official events -- IN PLAIN SIGHT -- the betraying letters "WOAW" as a warning to innocent persons who may approach with the intention of polite and civil conversation. It is our whim that the penalty for each such violation shall be a pound of chocolate to be delivered to the Queen, of a kind approved in advance by Her Majesty.

Further, it is our whim that Thorvald Grimsson shall become the first Grand Puntiff of Avacal, with the right and responsibility to admit members to the order.
